About this project
Benii House is a reference project in Japan built around the finish it is named after. From the tatami room, full-height sliders open to a veranda where a light-brushed Benii yakisugi wall meets raw cedar deck boards under a timber ceiling, the palette running from pale to black.
The photograph shows why Benii suits projects that want warmth rather than drama. Brushing exposes the grain beneath the char, so the wall shifts between brown and black as the light moves.
